PHILADELPHIA (Pa.) – Senior tailback Jay White racked up a career-high 250 yards of total offense and scored all four touchdowns for the Delaware Valley University football team as the 24th ranked Aggies went into Franklin Field and defeated the host Eastern Eagles, 29-6, on Saturday afternoon.
White, the reigning first team all-conference running back, accounted for 184 yards of offense and three touchdowns in the first half to propel the team to a 19-6 lead at the break. The defense allowed just two field goals and held the Eagles to 56 yards of offense in the first half.
White's first score came late in the first quarter when he took a handoff, bounced outside, and sprinted down the left sideline for a 35-yard touchdown to give the Aggies a 6-3 lead after one.
Midway through the second, White found pay dirt for the second time as he sprinted up the middle, broke a couple tackles and crossed the goal line for a 16-yard touchdown. Jack Hughes converted the point after attempt and DelVal took a 13-3 lead with 5:29 left in the first half.
For his third score, White took advantage of a broken play as Louie Barrios IV scrambled around the backfield to buy some extra time and found White streaking behind the defense for a 56-yard touchdown pass and a 19-3 lead.
Eastern added a late 37-yard field goal before White broke off a 33 yard on the final play of the half to put him over 100 yards rushing.
DelVal outgained the Eagles, 240-56, and took a 19-6 lead into the second half.
White's fourth touchdown capped a 10-play, 74-yard drive late in the third quarter and put the Aggies up, 26-6, as he powered his way up the middle for nine yards.
Early in the fourth, Mike Bartley hit a 38-yard field goal to put DelVal up by 23 and ultimately seal the victory.
The DelVal defense allowed 115 yards of total offense on 61 plays as the Eagles averaged just 1.6 yards per carry and less than two yards per play. They ran the ball 41 times for 67 yards and completed only 5-of-20 passes for 80 yards.
Defensively, Anthony Puntolillo and Shaun Balckom recorded 1.5 sacks with Puntolillo recording a team-high nine tackles. Notti Jones made eight tackles including a tackle for loss and Nick Chapman had two tackles for loss as part of his six tackles.
White's big day included 19 runs for 194 yards with three rushing scores and the 56-yard touchdown reception. He averaged 10.2 yards per carry. Barrios completed six passes for 107 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Loughlin and Jasiah Davis caught three passes apiece.
The win extends the Aggies record long win-streak against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponents to 45 in-a-row. They will look to keep the streak alive during their home opener next week as they welcome in King's College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
