DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team cruised to a win in the first set against Mount Saint Mary before holding the squad to just nine points in the second-set win to set the tone for the 3-0 victory over the Knights on Saturday afternoon.
It was business as usual in the first set with the teams trading the lead through the first 10 points each before an 8-2 run, highlighted by kills from
Olivia Deffendall and
Victoria Tucker, put the Aggies up by five, 17-12. The knights tried to close the gap putting up four-straight to cut the deficit to two, 20-18. The Aggies held the 5-2 edge through the rest of the set with a kill from Tucker ending it, 25-20.
A 5-2 run by DelVal put the team up early over the Knights to start the second set. A quick back and forth of scoring ensued before the Aggies started on a 6-0 spurt comprised of a
Hannah Brennan service ace and back-to-back
Gretta Schneider kills to pull ahead 13-4. Mount Saint Mary answered with three consecutive points before DelVal picked up another six unanswered points to take a 13-point lead, 20-7. The Knights struggled to get the attack going putting just two more points on the board. DelVal finished it off with 3-0 run to win the set, 25-9.
The Aggies struck early but quickly lost the lead with a 4-0 run from the Knights, 5-3. A 4-1 response from DelVal put the team back on top, 7-6. The score remained tight through the next few points until a kill from Schneider started the Aggies on a huge 8-0 run to take the 11-18 advantage over Mount Saint Mary. A service error ended the run, but DelVal held the 7-3 edge through the rest of the set for the 25-19 win.
Tucker led the Aggies in kills with 10 while
Emma Helverson and
Emily Yun shared duties from the back of the court with two service aces apiece.
Grace Wilson came up with a team-high 15 digs.
The Aggies return to action this Wednesday, Sept. 20 at home in James Work Gymnasium as they face their first MAC opponent, Stevens, in a 7 p.m. matchup.
