Doylestown, PA. - The Delaware Valley University field hockey team dropped it's home opener to MAC Commonwealth foe Widener by a score of 5-0.
The Aggies started off strong with two corner chances within the first ninety seconds of the game. With 0:23 seconds left in the first quarter, Widener opened up the scoring with a goal by fifth Year, Margaret Howe-Consiglio. She would go on to score her second goal of the game on a penalty shot to make it 2-0. Less than two minutes later, Meredith Marsteller scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Howe-Consiglio to extend the lead 3-0. In the third quarter, Howe-Consiglio would continue her dominant performance by scoring her third goal of the game to make it 4-0. The fifth-year led the Pride in goals last season and is off to a strong start so far in 2023. In the final seconds of the fourth quarter, senior Makenzie Adamson scored her first goal of the season to push the lead to 5-0.
The Aggies were led by senior Alyssa Rudd with four saves and senior Sydney Keagle who had two shots including a scoring chance in the fourth quarter.
Following the loss, the Aggies fall to 0-1 and look to bounce back on Saturday, September 9th on the road against Cabrini. The Aggies next home game takes place on Wednesday, September 13th against Bryn Mawr.
