Softball Overcome At Lycoming In A Pair Of MAC Freedom Games

WILLIAMSPORT (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University softball team dropped a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contests at Lycoming College by scores of 8-4 and 1-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Aggies (5-19-1, 0-8) trailed 1-0 after one in the opener, but took the lead in the second inning with two runs on four hits. Paige Sammons got the rally started with a walk and DelVal would load the bases with one out for Danielle Helwig. Helwig delivered a single to right to tie the game, and Kenzie Boyd followed with a single back up the middle to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead.

The Warriors (16-6, 7-1) responded with five runs on six hits in their half of the second to regain the lead. Kylie Segraves highlighted the run with a bases loaded double the scored two, and Morgan Wetzel drove in one with a double of her own.

DelVal took advantage of a couple Lycoming errors in the third to cut into the deficit. Helwig and Boyd came through again with bases loaded as they each drove in a run to make it a 6-4 game heading into the bottom of the third.

The Warriors got those runs right back on a Claire Alexander single to center that scored two and made it 8-4. They held the Aggies to just one hit the rest of the way to hold on to the victory.

Boyd led DelVal with a 3-for-4 effort and two RBI, and Kathleen McGeoy was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Boyd pitched all six innings and allowed 11 hits, six earned runs and walked two.

In game two, the Warriors posted 10 runs on nine hits while holding the Aggies to no runs on five hits from five different players.

Lycoming scored six times in the first inning and added four in the fourth. DelVal left two runners on second and third in the third inning and stranded the bases loaded with one out in the fifth to end the game.

Makenna Cooper, Carly Mahal, Olivia Rexrode, Sierra Ripka, and Jillian Ulozas each had a hit for the Aggies in game two.

DelVal will look to get back to form at home against Widener on Tuesday, April 11 at 3 p.m.
