DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley hosted Widener for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday and earned a split with the Pride, as the Aggies lost game one, 3-1, before bouncing back with a 5-2 win in game two.
GAME ONE
The Pride (10-14) got on the board in the top of the first with an infield single to third base with two outs. Kenzie Boyd worked out of the jam and left the bases loaded to limit Widener to one run. The visitors added on to their lead in the second with an RBI groundout and a single to lead 3-0 after two innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Aggies (6-20-1) pulled off a double steal with Kenzie Boyd stealing second and Carly Mahal stealing home on the throw. Boyd safely stole second, but after being called safe, she came off the bag and was tagged out.
The Aggies threatened in the bottom of the sixth when Sierra Ripka singled and stole second. Mahal followed with a bunt single to put runners on the corners with two outs, but Pride starting pitcher Caitlyn Katchur induced a popout to retire the side.
Katchur threw a complete game allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out six.
Carly Mahal went 2-for-3 for the Aggies with a run scored.
GAME TWO
Widener put up a run in the top of the first with an RBI double by Katelyn Tong to lead 1-0.
In the third, the Aggies bats got hot, scoring four runs. Carly Mahal brought home the first run with an RBI single up the middle to even the score at 1-1. After an error with two outs extended the inning, Tori Bockrath ripped a bases-clearing double to left field, giving DelVal a 4-1 lead after three innings. Two Pride errors in the frame made all four runs unearned.
In the fourth, DelVal added on to their lead when starting pitcher Kenzie Boyd helped her own cause with an RBI double to right center to bring home Kathleen McGeoy, extending the lead to 5-1.
Widener threatened in the top of the seventh, scoring a run and putting the tying run at the plate with two outs, but Boyd got a popup to second base to end the inning.
Carly Mahal went 3-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base, while Kenzie Boyd reached base three times with an RBI double and a pair of walks.
In the circle, Boyd worked around 12 hits and stranded 12 runners on base to pick up her fifth win of the season.
The Aggies will be back in action on Thursday, April 13th for a home doubleheader against Albright at 3 p.m. for senior day.
