DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley Softball team hosted Misericordia in a doubleheader on Saturday and came away with a 3-0 win in game one before losing 15-12 in game two.
GAME ONE
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, Carly Mahal led off with a bunt single and a steal of second base. Sierra Ripka drove home Mahal with an RBI single into center for the game's first run. Maddie Donnelly drove home DelVal's second run with a groundout and the Aggies' third run came home on a throwing error to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead. Kenzie Boyd retired the side in order in the seventh to secure the shutout.
Madison Donnelly went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Aggies.
Kenzie Boyd fired a two-hitter with two walks and two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Misericordia got off to a quick start in game two with a five-run first inning off of four hits. DelVal fired right back with six hits and four runs in the bottom of the frame to pull within one. Donnelly, Makenna Cooper, Tori Backrath, and Jillian Ulozas all had RBI base knocks.
In the bottom of the third Bailey Smith and Ulozas hit back-to-back home runs over the fence in left center field to propel DelVal to a 7-5 advantage. Smith's shot was a two-run homer.
The Cougars responded in the top of the fourth with a home run of their own as Nicole Elliott launched one to left center to make it 7-6.
The Aggies stranded a runner at second in the fourth and Misericordia followed with five runs on five hits in the top of the fifth to regain the lead, 11-7.
After an hour delay in the bottom of the fifth, DelVal scored two runs to trail 11-9 after five innings. Carly Mahal brought home a run with a sacrifice bunt and Sierra Ripka had an RBI groundout.
An error in the bottom of the sixth brought the Aggies to within one at 11-10, but Misericordia scored four in the top of the seventh to gain a 15-10 cushion. DelVal scored two in the seventh, but couldn't get any closer.
The Aggies will travel to Stevens on Wednesday, April 26th for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
