DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley softball team hosted FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom softball doubleheader on Wednesday and fell in game one, 4-0 in eight innings, before losing game two, 8-1.
GAME ONE
Aggies' starting pitcher Kenzie Boyd and Devils' starting pitcher Ciara Hoffman each pitched seven scoreless innings to push the game into extras. DelVal put a runner on third base with one out in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an FDU error, but Hoffman picked up back-to-back strikeouts to work out of the jam.
In the top of the eighth, the Devils put runners on first and second with nobody out. After a sacrifice bunt moved runners up, an RBI groundout brought home the game's first run. FDU then scored three more unearned runs with two outs to take a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth. DelVal put two runners on in the eighth with one out, but were unable to bring the tying run to the plate.
Kenzie Boyd allowed one earned run in eight innings while picking up three strikeouts. Carly Mahal picked up a pair of hits for the Aggies.
Ciara Hoffman fired a shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out 13.
GAME TWO
FDU-Florham picked up the game's first run in the top of the first to lead 1-0. In the top of the third, the Devils added a run on a fielding error by DelVal to take a 2-0 lead. A pair of RBI singles for FDU extended their cushion to 4-0 in the top of the fourth. Abigail Rodriguez hit a two-run homerun in the fifth and Kristen Tigara hit a two-run double in the seventh.
Tori Bockrath drove home the Aggies' lone run in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single.
Ciara Hoffman gave up one run in the complete game effort as she scattered seven hits and had seven strikeouts.
Kristen TIgara went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Sierra Ripka had two hits for the Aggies.
DelVal will return to action Saturday, April 22nd with a home doubleheader against Misericordia at 1:00.
