Men’s Basketball Overcome at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley men's basketball team held a one point halftime lead, but shot just 24% from the field in the second half, as the Bulldogs pulled away late with a 63-51 win.

The Aggies trailed 13-8 after 9:12 of play before putting together an 8-0 run over the next 2:44 to take a three-point lead. Justin Savage scored four while Tremaine Kynard and Jordan Gombs added field goals.

DeSales (19-4, 13-1) responded with a 13-2 spurt over the next 3:46 to take an eight-point advantage, 26-18. The Bulldogs made 5-of-7 field goals and two treys, led by six points from Christian Guldin during the run.

DelVal (10-12, 5-8) closed the half strong with a furious 11-2 run over the final 4:15 including a Godly Marc layup with 11 seconds left to take a 29-28 lead into the break.

The Aggies shot 46% from the field over the first 20 minutes while holding the Bulldogs to 39%.

Teams exchanged baskets to begin the second half before DeSales held a three point lead at 37-34 four minutes in. Francis Robles Montas knocked down a triple to even the score at 37 apiece. The Bulldogs then put together an 8-1 run over the next 2:49 to lead 45-38 while shooting 3-of-5 from the field and holding DelVal without a field goal.

A Justin Savage three-pointer closed the gap to four before DeSales scored five straight to lead 52-43. The Bulldogs would grow their lead to 57-46 with 2:58 left before holding on for the 63-51 win.

DeSales shot 52% from the field in the second half while the Aggies struggled at just 24%.

Justin Savage led all scorers in the game with 16 points. Jordan Gombs was the second Aggie in double figures with ten points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists.

DelVal will return to action Saturday, February 11th at 3 p.m. for a home contest against Misericordia.
