Second Half Surge Leads Women’s Basketball to Sixth Straight Win

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A huge 46-point second half led the Delaware Valley women's basketball team to its second largest margin of victory this season defeating Gwynedd Mercy 65-50 on Saturday afternoon. The win marks a perfect 3-0 record at home for the Aggies and the sixth-straight win this season.
 
Aubrey Ennis put up a jumper 30 seconds in to give DelVal a 2-0 advantage it would hold onto through the next 3:30 keeping the Griffins scoreless over the entire stretch. Haley Keenan committed the Aggies first foul of the game at the 5:13 mark to send Gwynedd Mercy to the line sinking 1-of-2 to make it a 2-1 game. DelVal began to pull ahead with a 4-0 run, but 11 unanswered points put the Griffins in the 12-6 to end the first quarter.
 
The teams went point-for-point, 4-4, through the five-minute mark when a Keenan two-pointer started the Aggies on a 4-0 run to bring the deficit to just one point, 16-15, with just under three minutes left in the frame. A long ball from the Griffins extended their lead back to four, 19-15, with 2:30 to play in the half. The Aggies held the 4-3 edge through the final minutes to keep the deficit down to three, 22-19, at the end of the first half.
 
Ciana Feliciano sunk a three to start DelVal on an 11-2 run to close the gap and put the Aggies head 30-24 forcing a Gwynedd Mercy timeout at the 6:30 mark. DelVal continued out of the break with an 15-11 run capped off with an Ennis three and Jenna Schiessl layup at the buzzer to give the Aggies a 10-point advantage at the end of the third frame, 45-35.
 
The Griffins started the frame on an 8-4 run to come as close as five points, 49-44, and forcing an Aggies timeout with 4:45 on the clock. DelVal came out of the break with a short 4-0 spurt to extend its lead back to nine, 53-44, but Gwynedd Mercy quickly responded with two to bring the deficit down to seven, 53-46, and called a timeout with 3:03 to play. Kendra Rigo hit the three to start a 7-0 run to give the Aggies their largest lead of the game thus far, 60-46. DelVal sent the Griffins to the line to end the run shooting 1-of-2 to bring the deficit down to 13, 60-47 with just under two minutes remaining. The Aggies held on to the 5-3 edge through the end of the quarter to secure the 15-point win, 65-50.
 
Ennis and Alexis Wright led the scoring efforts for the Aggies with 13 points apiece. Feliciano and Keenan also netted double-digit scoring with 10 points apiece. Both Feliciano and Wright recorded double-doubles with Feliciano recording 13 boards and Wright totaling 10.
 
The Aggies are back in action on the road this Monday, Dec. 4 at Centenary (New Jersey) for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
