GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team faced a tough road battle against Stockton defeating the Osprey by just a margin of two, 68-66, in overtime. The shining moment of the game came from senior
Haley Keenan who sunk the layup in the final seconds of the first half to not only give DelVal a single-point lead, but also to hit the 1000
th-point career milestone.
Stockton earned an early lead with a 7-2 start over the Aggies. DelVal continued to trail through the next three minutes of the first quarter until a foul sent Kennan to the line shooting 2-of-2 to bring the deficit to one, 11-10.
Ciana Feliciano sunk the long ball followed by a
Kendra Rigo jumper to give the Aggies their first lead, 15-13. The Ospreys' knotted the score at 15-15, but DelVal maintained the slight 6-5 edge through the final minutes of the frame for the 21-19 lead.
The second quarter was tight between the competitors each sinking five buckets from the field with the Aggies holding a slight edge from beyond the arc shooting 3-of-8 while Stockton netted 2-of-6. The difference came at the free throw line with the Osprey going 2-of-3 to hold the 14-13 edge in the frame. But, a layup at the buzzer from Kennan to end the half kept DelVal in a single-point lead, 34-33.
Aubrey Ennis started the half off strong for the Aggies sinking the three to begin the team on a 7-1 run for a five-point lead, 41-36, their largest of the quarter. But, a 6-0 response ensued from the Osprey to put them ahead by one point, 41-41. The threes continued to fall for DelVal with
Alexis Wright converting from the long range to help DelVal with its 7-5 advantage through the end of the frame to keep the Aggies in a single-point lead, 48-47.
The fourth quarter was a battle with Stockton holding the ultimate 15-14 edge over the Aggies. Four points in the first two minutes from
Maisie Neuber created another five-point lead for DelVal, 52-47. Over the next three minutes the Osprey came within one point of tying the score twice ultimately converting a pull-up jumper at the 4:04 mark to make it a 55-55 game. The teams tied the score twice more with Neuber sinking two from the charity stripe to give DelVal a single-point lead, 62-61, with just 47 seconds on the clock. Foul trouble put Stockton at the line shooting 1-of-2 to tie it and send the game into overtime.
Neuber kept the momentum going for the Aggies scoring five of their six points in overtime to help DelVal maintain a single-point lead, 67-66, with 1:46 on the clock. Neither team managed to secure a point over the next 1:45 until a Stockton foul sent Keenan to the free throw line for the basket and the win, 68-66.
Five Aggies finished the night in double figures led by Neuber with 15 points from 6-of-15 shooting and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. She also led the Aggies at the boards with 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
DelVal returns to action this Wednesday, Nov, 29 at 6 p.m. when they host Neumann at James Work Gymnasium.
