Aggies March Past Mighty Macs for Third Consecutive Win

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team came out strong to take a lead by the end of the first quarter that it wouldn't relinquish, defeating Immaculata 70-56 on Monday night. The victory marks the third straight for the Aggies this season who now hold a 3-1 record including a perfect 1-0 mark when playing at home in James Work Gymnasium.

Immaculata started the game strong with the 8-4 edge through the first four minutes to take the early lead. Layups from Alexis Wright and Haley Keenan changed the pace for the Aggies tying the game, 8-8. The teams knotted the score once more at 11-11 before Wright was sent to the line sinking 2-of-2 to kick off a 9-2 run for DelVal with the final 3-point shot coming at 0:06 on the clock from Jenna Schiessl to give the Aggies a 22-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter belonged to the Aggies who maintained control of the lead through the entire 10 minutes building up as big as an 18-point gap. Schiessl started the frame the same way she ended the last sinking the deep ball to set DelVal on a 7-0 run for the 29-14 lead. The Mighty Macs got the score going with a 7-2 burst over the next 2:39 to cut the deficit to 10, 31-21. A foul broke up the scoring streak sending Kennan to the line for two and shifting the momentum once again for the 10-4 run to end the half and put DelVal ahead 41-25.

The Mighty Macs came out of the half hot outscoring the Aggies 18-8 with the difference coming at the free throw line. Immaculata stepped up to the charity stripe 10 times shooting 80% in the frame while holding DelVal to just 4-of-13 (30.8%) from the field including an unsuccessful 0-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc. The effort allowed the Mighty Macs to nearly overcome a 16-point deficit and turn it into a six-point game, 49-43, heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.

The Aggies turned on the heat in the final quarter with a 9-1 run in the first 2:33 thanks to a 3-of-4 effort from the field, 1-of-1 performance from the long range and 2-of-2 shooting from the line to take a 14-point lead, 58-44. A Mighty Macs layup stuffed the run, but the Aggies answered with a short 6-1 run to increase the lead to 17, 64-47. Immaculata's offense started to gain some ground with the 9-6 edge through the rest of the game, but it was too little too late as DelVal ultimately walked away with the 70-56 win.

Kennan led DelVal with 28 points off 11-of-22 shooting and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Wright also finished the game in double digits with 16 points shooting 50% from the field and 100% from the line. Schiessl recorded her first 10-plus point game of the season leading the Aggies from the long range shooting 4-of-7 for 12 points. Maisie Neuber led at the boards with 10 rebounds. The game marks Wright's fourth-straight and Kennan's third-straight scoring in double figures.

DelVal takes a break for the holiday before returning to action on Monday, Nov. 27 at Stockton for a 6 p.m. tip.
