DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team held their Dig Pink Match honoring breast cancer survivors and raising awareness before the game, but unfortunately could not walk away with the win against DeSales.
The Bulldogs were quick to build up a lead putting the Aggies behind 11-2. DelVal managed to cut the deficit down to nine, 19-9, off an attack error paired with an
Emma Helverson kill. A couple of errors helped the Bulldogs build back up a 12-point lead, 22-10, when a Helverson kill got the Aggies' offense rolling with a 4-0 run to bring the deficit back down to eight, 22-14. DeSales finished it off with a 3-0 run to win the set 25-14.
A kill and service ace from Helverson gave the Aggies their first lead of the match to start the second set, 4-2. The Bulldogs tried to claw their way back, but kills from
Grace Kane and
Victoria Tucker kept the Aggies in the lead, 6-5. DeSales answered with a 5-0 run immediately followed by a 4-0 spurt from DelVal to tie the score, 10-10. Another 5-0 run from the Bulldogs put DelVal in a deficit it wouldn't overcome, 15-10. DeSales managed to hold the 10-7 edge through the rest of the set to win it 25-17.
The teams traded points to start with the Bulldogs eventually pulling ahead by three, 6-3. DelVal's offense got to work bringing it down to just a single-point deficit, 8-7. The Bulldogs rebuilt their lead, 11-7, but kills from
Gretta Schneider and
Monique Smith kept the Aggies in reach, 11-10. DeSales responded with a huge 7-0 run to take an eight-point lead, 18-10. A kill from Schneider set the Aggies off on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit in half, 18-14, but it wasn't enough as DeSales held onto the 7-5 advantage through the rest of the set to win it 25-19.
Helverson sat at the top of the offense in the match with a team-high six kills. She also led the Aggies defense with four blocks. Kane assisted in the defensive efforts recording a team-high 24 digs.
DelVal returns to action this Thursday, Oct. 26 against Gwynedd Mercy in a 7 p.m. senior day matchup.
