First Half Struggles Cost Aggies at Susquehanna

SELINGSGROVE (Pa.)--- After falling behind by 22 at halftime, the Delaware Valley men's basketball team was unable to put together a comeback in the second half as they fell in their final non-conference game of the season, 81-63, at Susquehanna.

After the Aggies (7-6) fell behind by seven after the first six minutes, the visitors rattled off a 7-0 run to even the score at 17-17. Francis Robles Montas started the burst with a three pointer before Ewens Lizima rattled off the next four points for DelVal. The River Hawks (5-7) took control from there, scoring the next 11 points to lead 28-17 with 7:40 left in the half. The Aggies briefly cut the deficit to eight before Susquehanna ran away with the remainder of the first half to lead 47-25 at the half.

The River Hawks shot an impressive 21-for-34 (61.8%) from the field in the first half while DelVal struggled at 10-for-32 (31.3%) in the first half.

Susquehanna ballooned their lead to 29 over the first five minutes of the second stanza. The Aggies continued to battle, but were only able to trim the River Hawk advantage to 19 late in the game. DelVal won the second half of play 38-34. After shooting just 2-for-16 from beyond the arc in the first half, the Aggies knocked down eight of their 16 attempts in the second stanza.

Casey Caruso led the Aggies with 13 points while Francis Robles Montas added 12 and Goddy Marcy contributed 11.

Brandon Lavitt led all scorers for Susquehanna with 22 points.

DelVal will be back in action Saturday, January 7th at 3 p.m. at Misericordia for MAC Freedom play.
