Women’s Volleyball Drops a Pair at Mount Saint Mary Tri-Match

NEWBURGH (Ny.)--- The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team traveled to Mount Saint Mary College for a tri-match with the host Knights and Baruch College and ended up on the losing end, 3-0, in both matches.

BARUCH

The Aggies (3-4) saw themselves in a tough battle in set one after taking a quick 5-0 lead. Baruch eventually held a late 22-20 edge before DelVal fought back to take a 25-24 lead. Baruch would hold strong and come away with a 29-27 win in the first set.

The Bearcats would dominate the rest of the way, winning the second set 25-15 before taking the final set of the sweep 25-13.

Olivia Deffendall led the Aggies with 12 kills and Emma Helverson had three service aces for DelVal.

MOUNT SAINT MARY

DelVal got off to a nice start in the first set and held a 10-9 advantage. The host Knights then rattled off a 7-0 run to take a 16-10 edge before taking the first set 25-19.

The hosts controlled the second set on their way to a 25-15 victory to take a 2-0 lead. In the third set, the Aggies found themselves trailing 15-11 before scoring eight consecutive points to go in front 19-15. Mount Saint Mary battled back and after trailing 21-18, scored four straight to go ahead 22-21. The Aggies tied it up at 23 but the Knights finished the match off with a 25-23 win.

Deffendall again led DelVal with 12 kills. Gretta Schneider was second on the team with nine and Cat Nemil finished with 28 assists.

The Aggies hit the road for the next match at Cairn on Tuesday, September 20th for a 7 p.m. start.
