BETHLEHEM (PA)--- The Delaware Valley softball team took on Moravian University for a non-conference doubleheader and come out on the losing end in both games, falling in game one 8-3 and in game two 18-1.
Game One
The Aggies (6-11) got the scoring started early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Carly Mahal sacrificed Sierra Ripka to second after a leadoff single. Then with two outs, Emily Merrigan brought home Ripka with an RBI single.
The bats continued to roll in the second, as DelVal tacked on another run. Yasmine Gonzalez led off with a walk and Bailey Smith brought her home with an RBI double.
Moravian (16-2) quickly responded in the bottom half of the frame with three runs after a two-run double from Mya Zettlemoyer and a run-scoring double from Maddisen Bieber.
The Greyhounds broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Lindsey Gawrys brought home a pair of runs with a single, Emily Silberman knocked in the sixth run with a single and an RBI single from Victoria Smith single capped off the inning.
Brooke Wehr added the final run in the fifth for the Greyhounds with a solo home run.
The Aggies continued to fight in the seventh, as pinch hitter Makenna Cooper blasted her first career home run to left field.
Sierra Ripka reached base three times in the game, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
Game Two
Game two belonged to the Greyhounds from the onset, as the hosts scored a pair of runs in the first on a single and a sacrifice fly.
In the second, Moravian tacked on six more runs on a grand slam from Brooke Wehr and a two-run shot from Lindsey Gawrys.
The biggest inning for the Greyhounds came in the third, as they put up a ten-run frame. Wehr and Gawrys each added their second longballs of the game, each a three-run shot. Emily Silberman hit a solo homerun in the inning as well.
The Aggies lone run of the game came on an RBI groundout from Alexis Langenfelder to bring home Sierra Ripka.
Makenna Cooper finished game two with a pair of hits, going 2-for-2.
The Aggies will be back in action after one day off, as they travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
