Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Finale At DeSales

CENTER VALLEY (Pa.) – In the final season of the 2022 campaign, the Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team traveled to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rival DeSales, but dropped an 18-8 decision.

The win moved the Bulldogs to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in league play as they secured the number three seed in the conference playoff tournament. The Aggies finished the season 6-11 overall and 3-5 in conference games to finish one spot out of the playoffs in sixth place.

DeSales got out to a quick start with five goals in the first quarter, including three in the final 3:32. Jalen Holmes had three of the goals.

Vince Maria and Sean Wiser made it a seven-goal game with early tallies in the second. With 6:49 left in the half, Brett Ziegler connected with Travis Berman to get DelVal on the board, but the Bulldogs got it right back 30 seconds later.

The Aggies got one more from Berman in the second, but trailed 11-2 at halftime.

Out of the break, DelVal scored four goals in a span of four minutes, 14 seconds to pull within five, 11-6, with 6:59 left in the third. Francis Rose got the run started, Brandon Keller scored off a feed from Berman, Berman and Ziegler hooked up for another, and Ben Napieralski capped the spurt with a man-up goal off a feed from Tony Aguayo.

The home team closed the game with a 7-2 run the rest of the way to pull away with the 18-8 victory.

Rose and Napieralski picked up their second goals of the game late in regulation while Berman paced the team with three goals and one assist for four points. Defensively, Luke Kelchner grabbed a team-high eight ground balls and forced four turnovers. The Aggies won 12-of-29 faceoffs behind a 7-for-17 effort from Freddie Offenburger.

Jalen Holmes led all players with six goals in the game and Zach Bowen finished with four points on two goals and two assists.

Jim Murphy and Ryley Savering split time in goal and combined for 16 saves while a pair of DeSales keepers combined for 15 saves in the win.
