Murphy Sets Single-Season Saves Record in Men’s Lacrosse Defeat at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT (PA)--- The Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team traveled to Lycoming for a pivotal Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest and come away on the losing end, 15-6.

With his eighth save in the game, Jim Murphy became the new single-season saves leader with 149, breaking Jon Fogarty's previous mark of 148 set in 2016. Murphy finished the game with 20 saves, giving him 161 for the season.

In a slow first quarter, Lycoming scored the only two goals, as Owen Zimmerman's two tallies gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes.

Zimmerman continued his strong play in the second, scoring just 22 seconds into the quarter. The Warriors would add on three more to lead 6-0 midway through the second. Ben Napieralski got the Aggies on the board with a man-down goal with 7:06 left in the quarter. Lycoming wasted no time extending their lead however, with three goals over the next three minutes to lead 9-1. Lucien St. Onge, Brandon Keller and George Evanick gave the Aggies some life heading into halftime with three consecutive goals to close the half to trail 9-4.

Three straight goals from Lycoming grew the lead to 12-4 with 5:17 left in the third before Evanick scored the second man-down goal of the game for the Aggies to trail 12-5 after three.

The Warriors added three more goals to start the fourth before Napieralski netted the final goal of the game with 6:37 left.

Owen Zimmerman finished with six goals for Lycoming while Joey Hoover and Rory Hines each scored three times.

George Evanick and Ben Napieralski found the back of the net twice for the Aggies.
