DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team concluded its series with Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom front-runner, and the eighth-ranked team in the country, Arcadia University and suffered a pair of setbacks. The Knights won game won, 19-1, and took game two, 4-1.
The Knights improved to 28-4 overall and 14-1 in league play while the Aggies dropped to 11-16 and 3-12.
Arcadia scored in every inning except the third, in the opener, and held DelVal to just four hits for the game. The Knights posted 15 hits in the game from 10 different players including multiple hit games from five different players. They scored four runs in the first inning to get out to an early lead and went into the fifth with a 8-0 advantage before a six-run fifth.
Nick Fossile earned the win after going five innings and allowing three hits, one earned run, and striking out four.
Alex Crim suffered the loss for DelVal after going four innings and allowing seven earned runs with one strikeout. Timmy Lallis went 2-for-3 at the dish and Hank Bielen had a hit and an RBI that drove home Lallis.
Arcadia stayed hot in game two as the offense posted two runs on six hits through the first two innings and starting pitcher Hunter Sibley held the Aggies to two hits through the first five.
The Knights tacked on two more in the fourth and maintained a 4-0 lead into the sixth when DelVal finally got to Sibley. With one out, Bobby Bright hit a single back up the middle and Hank Bielen followed with a double up the left field line. Shawne Eldridge came up next and hit a ground ball to third that plated Bright to ultimately lead to the 4-1 final.
DelVal got four hits in the game off Sibley who went six innings and struck out four. Arcadia managed nine hits including two apiece for Curley and Kumar.
Derek Cannon suffered the loss on the mound after going four innings and allowing two earned runs on nine hits with one punch out. Ethan Saxe was strong in relief as he allowed just one walk and faced the minimum number of batters.
DelVal's next contest is slated for Tuesday, April 19 at home against Penn State Berks. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
