Second Quarter Struggles Hurt Aggies in Home Loss to New England College

DOLYESTOWN (PA)--- After being tied at 2-2 after the first quarter, the Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team was outscored 8-1 in the second quarter, as they fell to the New England College Pilgrims 12-8 in non-conference action.

Susan Radwing got the scoring started, scoring off an assist from Kyra McKeegan to give the Aggies (1-5) a 1-0 lead just under five minutes into the game. The Pilgrims (3-5) responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead with 1:14 left in the first frame. Kiara Haywood-Rivera found the back of the net with seven seconds left in the first to even the score at two apiece.

The second quarter was all Pilgrims, as the visitors scored the first eight goals of the quarter to lead 10-2 before Ashley Birmingham's goal with 30 seconds left sent the game into halftime at 10-3.

Hawywood-Rivera started the third with a man-up goal just 33 seconds in to trim the deficit to 10-4. New England would answer with two consecutive goals to grow their lead back to eight at 12-4.

The Aggies continued to fight, scoring the last four goals of the game, two in the third and two in the fourth, to trim the lead to 12-8 with 5:57 remaining. Rawding, Jaden Keefer, Gabby Borst and Ashley Birmingham each scored a goal. DelVal couldn't continue their run, as no more goals were scored for the remainder of the game.

Ashley Birmingham, Kiara Haywood-Rivera and Susan Rawding each scored two goals for the Aggies.

Lauren Rich had a game-high five goals for New England, while Nathalie Antigua and Alexandria Safford each scored three times.

The Aggies will be back in action Wednesday, March 30th at 4 p.m. as they host Wilkes to open MAC Freedom play.
