Aggies Collect 15 Hits, Cannon Throws Gem in Relief in 11-1 Win at Neumann

ASTON (PA)--- The Delaware Valley University baseball team held a 3-0 lead after six innings before scoring four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings, as the Aggies pulled away late for an 11-1 win at Neumann University.

After Cole Holsinger threw a clean first inning, Derek Cannon fired 6.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven to earn his first career victory. Ridge Watson threw 1.2 scoreless innings to finish off the game.

The Aggies got the scoring stated in the second inning. After James Kelly reached on an error, Jared Sterner moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Hank Bielen capitalized and hit an RBI double to put DelVal ahead 1-0.

Shawne Eldridge added on to the lead for the Aggies in the fifth, as the senior singled to center to score Jonathan Drews. Bielen collected his second RBI in the top of the sixth, brining in Kelly with an RBI groundout to extend the DelVal lead to 3-0.

The Aggies opened up the game in the seventh, scoring four runs on five hits. Garrett Zimmerman led off with a single. After a ground out and a single by Drews, Eldridge ripped his first triple of the season to score the runners. Kenny Tunison followed that up with an RBI single, extending the lead to 6-0. After he stole second and moved to third on a passed ball, Sterner capped off the inning with an RBI single to right, giving the Aggies a 7-0 lead.

The hit parade continued in the eighth, as DelVal plated four more runs, all with two outs. After two of the first three Aggies were retired, Drews drove home Timmy Lallis with an RBI single. After an Eldridge walk, Tunison put an exclamation point on the day, hitting his first career homerun, a three-run shot, giving the Aggies an 11-0 lead.

The first five hitters of the Aggie lineup, Timmy Lallis, Jonathan Drews, Shawne Eldridge, Kenny Tunison and James Kelly each had multiple hits, with Kelly and Drews recording three apiece. Kelly scored two runs, while Drews had an RBI and scored three times.

Eldridge finished with three RBIs and two runs scored and Tunison led the Aggies with four RBIs while scoring twice.

The Aggies big day at the plate gives them 40 runs scored over the past three games and 69 for the season over the first eight (8.63 per game).

DelVal will be back in action Friday at FDU-Florham to open MAC Freedom play at 3:30 p.m.
