HOBOKEN (NJ)--- The Delaware Valley women's basketball team couldn't overcome a 15 point first quarter deficit, as they fell at Stevens, 75-48, in a Middle Atlantic Freedom (MAC) Freedom contest.
After teams traded baskets early on, Stevens (16-4, 11-2) went on a 9-0 run fueled by Allie Moss, as the senior knocked down three consecutive three pointers to put the host Ducks in front 11-2. Scarlett King put an end to that burst for DelVal (6-12, 2-12) with a jumper, but Stevens scored the next six points to grow the advantage to 17-4. Kaela Stankiewicz and Haley Keenan each added a bucket late in the quarter, but a Lucy Alberici three pointer extend the Stevens' lead to 23-8 after the first quarter.
The Ducks led 28-10 three minutes into the second frame, but two Jenna Schiessl buckets sandwiched by a Madyson Smith three point shot trimmed the deficit to 28-17 after the 7-0 run. A three pointer from Stevens ended the burst, but the Aggies scored the next four to trail by 10 before heading into halftime down 33-21.
Stankiewicz scored the first bucket of the second half to bring the Ducks' lead back to ten. After the score sat at 35-25, Stevens rattled off the next ten points with four different players scoring to give themselves their largest lead of the game to that point at 45-25 midway through the third quarter. Jess Williamson and Lauren Moretti each made baskets for DelVal late in the third, but Stevens led 50-30 heading into the fourth.
Stevens scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to lead 57-30 before leading by as many as 30 at 62-32. The Aggies rattled off an 8-2 run after that with six points from Lauren Moretti and two from Haley Keenan, but they wouldn't get any closer, as Stevens went on to win 75-48.
Stevens outshot DelVal by going 30-for-67 (45%) from the field, while DelVal went 20-of-56 (36%). The Ducks outrebound the Aggies 46-29 and also got 32 points from their bench, while the Aggies got six.
Allie Moss led a balanced attack for the Ducks with 14 points and Jess Broad added 12 with seven points and seven assists.
Haley Keenan led the Aggies with 15 points while Lauren Moretti added 14 points to go along with nine rebounds.
The Aggies will return home Saturday, February 12th as they host Wilkes at 1 p.m. and will honor their lone senior, Lauren Moretti, on senior day.
