Hot Shooting Propels Men's Hoops To Home Win Over Moravian

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team shot over 50-percent from the field and picked up an 81-76 non-conference win at home over Moravian College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Aggies head into their Christmas break one game above .500 at 6-5 while the Greyhounds fell to 2-8 overall.

Four different players from DelVal connected from beyond the arc in the first five minutes as the Aggies doubled up Moravian on the scoreboard, 14-7. Later in the half, an and-one play from Jordan Gombs and a transition 3-ball from Goddy Marc gave DelVal a double-digit lead at 27-16 with 10:19 left in the first half.

The Greyhounds needed just two minutes, 40 seconds to put together an 11-1 run and pull within one, 28-27. Uma Kalu had six points in the run.

It remained a one point game with under five minutes to play in the half until the Aggies used an 11-0 run to close the stanza and take a 45-33 lead into the break. Justin Savage had four points in the stretch and Goddy Marc hit his third trey of the half.

Gombs led the Aggies with 12 points in the first half and was one of seven players to score for DelVal which shot 16-for-30 from the field and 8-for-14 from deep.

Out of the break, a Godly Marc and-one quickly extended the Aggies lead to 15, 48-33.

Moravian refused to go away and used a 14-4 run over the next 4:45 of play to pull within five with 14:37 left in regulation.

DelVal maintained its five-point lead with under five minutes to play until a Greyhound steal led to a Danny Cooper 3-pointer to make it a 67-65 game with 4:27 on the clock.

The teams traded baskets at a furious pace down the stretch and it remained a two-point game with just 86 seconds to play. The Greyhounds forced DelVal to beat them at the foul line down the stretch and Godly Marc delivered, going 4-for-4 before Tyriq Toney-Bailey stepped up to hit a pair to put the game away and secure the 81-76 victory.

The Aggies shot 29-for-56 (51.8%) from the field and 10-for-21 (47.6%) from deep. Goddy Marc shot 7-for-8 from the field and 5-ror-6 from three for a team-high 19 points and his brother, Godly, followed with a 7-for-7 effort and 18 points. Gombs racked up 15 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while Savage finished with 13 points.

Cooper led all players with 20 points for Moravian and Kalu finished with 12. The Greyhounds shot 28-59 (47.5%) from the field and 8-27 (29.6%) from deep, but won the rebound battle, 41-23.

DelVal will enjoy the holidays before hosting Rosemont College on December 29 at 3 p.m.
