DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley women's basketball team got out to a nine point lead after the first quarter before leading by 19 at halftime as they ran away from Lycoming in the second half, 69-39, to pick up their third consecutive conference win.
After the Aggies (5-4, 3-1) fell behind 7-5, DelVal ended the quarter on a 15-4 run to lead 20-11. In the quarter, the Aggies shot over 50% from the field and knocked down a pair of triples. Haley Keenan and Alexis Wright combined for the final nine points of the quarter for Delval.
Maisie Neuber and Taylor Richardson opened the second quarter with back to back buckets to grow the lead to 13. After a Warriors bucket, Richardson started a 7-0 Aggie run with a pair of free throws and a layup and Haley Keenan finished an and-one to give the home team their largest lead at 31-13 midway through the quarter. DelVal held Lycoming to just seven points in the quarter on 3-of-10 shooting to lead 37-18 at the break.
Sophie Chevres, who stuffed the stat sheet with ten points and six assists, picked up one of her five steals of the day to open up the second half before converting on the other end for a layup. Teams traded baskets throughout the quarter as the Aggies shot 46% while outscoring the Warriors 17-16 to take a 20 point lead into the final stanza.
The Aggies turned up the defensive pressure in the fourth while shooting 60% from the field as they outscored Lycoming 15-5 over the final ten minutes. Tori Bockrath scored the first five points of the quarter for the Aggies as Chevres, Keenan and Jenna Schiessl each found the scoring column in the fourth as well.
Haley Keenan led all scorers with 20 points while grabbing nine rebounds and adding four steals.
Sophie Chevres, Taylor Richardson and Maisie Neuber each scored ten points while Alexis Wright tacked on nine points. Neuber pulled down eight boards while Chevres added six assists and five steals.
The Aggies, who lead the MAC Freedom in free throw percentage, excelled from the charity stripe again shooting 13-of-15. From the field, DelVal was 26-of-53 for 49%. On the defensive end, the Aggies held Lycoming to just 29% shooting.
With their third win in conference play, the Aggies have already surpassed last year's conference win total and sit at 3-1 in MAC Freedom play.
DelVal will return to action Tuesday, December 13th as they travel to Marywood for a non-conference matchup at 6 p.m.
