Box Score MORRISTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team came-from-behind to earn a thrilling 71-66 overtime victory in the 2022-23 season opener at Saint Elizabeth College on Tuesday night.
The Aggies (1-0) trailed 37-35 at the halftime break as the Eagles (0-1) were holding on to a narrow lead for much of the second half. The home built its lead to seven before DelVal clawed back with a 6-0 run to pull within one, 54-53, with under five minutes to play. The two teams went back-and-forth, exchanging leads down the stretch, before eventually heading to overtime knotted at 63-63.
In the overtime period, the Aggies held St. Elizabeth to just three points and put an exclamation on the victory when Ewens Lizima forced a turnover near midcourt and sprung first-year Justin Savage who rose up for a dunk in transition with under five seconds to play to cap the 71-66 victory.
Sophomore Zoelin Pair led the team with a double-double of 15 rebounds and 12 points to go with two steals and a blocked shot. Lizima finished with nine points, seven steals, six rebounds and four assists, and senior Rich Thomas added 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Goddy Marc logged over 40 minutes and scored a team-high 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting to go with three assists.
As a team, the Aggies shot 26-for-62 (41.9%) from the field and 9-for-22 (40.9%) from 3-point land. Defensively, they held the Eagles to 23-of-54 (42.6%) shooting from the field and 5-of-18 (27.8%) from deep and forced them into 21 turnovers.
