Women's Basketball Routs Centenary, 81-33, In Home Opener

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team scored 52 points in the second half and rolled to an 81-33 triumph over Centenary University in the Aggies 2022-23 home opener on Wednesday night.

DelVal improved to 1-2 on the young season while the Cyclones fell to 2-1 with their first lost.

Centenary took an early 7-2 lead, but the Aggies used a 9-2 run with baskets from four different players to take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night. First-year Aubrey Ennis capped the first quarter with a trey off an assist from fellow rookie Tori Bockrath to give Delval a 20-15 lead after one.

Jenna Schiessl started the second quarter with a 3-pointer and the Aggies went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to maintain a 29-20 lead at the half.

DelVal's big second half included 25 points in the third quarter and 27 in the fourth. Meanwhile, the defense held Centenary to 13 total points and forced 16 turnovers in the half. Haley Keenan scored seven in the third quarter and Maisie Neuber and Aliyah Jean-Baptiste each had six the stanza.

In the fourth, Schiessl went off for three 3-pointers and 11 points while Keenan and Ennis chipped in five apiece to close out the rout.

For the game, the Aggies placed four players in double figures led by Keenan's 22 points and four steals. Schiessl connected on 5-of-8 treys to finish with 19 points and three steals. Ennis dropped 14 points, two assists and two steals, and Jean-Baptiste added 10 points, five rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot. Taylor Richardson grabbed eight rebounds and scored seven points with two assists, to steals and a blocked shot and Neuber added eight points, five rebounds and three assists. Alexis Wright led all players with a game-high 11 rebounds.

As a team, DelVal shot 40% (28-for-70) from the field and went 8-for-24 from deep. The Aggies outrebounded the Cyclones, 41-30.

Centenary was led by Carmen Escano's 10 points and Brie Opdyke's nine points and seven rebounds.

DelVal will look to get back to .500 when it welcomes Stockton to Doylestown on Saturday at 6 p.m.
