Women's Soccer Downed By DeSales In MAC Freedom Play

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team fell to visiting DeSales University, 4-1, in a home Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom tilt on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improved to 10-5-2 overall and 4-3 in conference play to secure a berth to the MAC Freedom postseason tournament. The Aggies fell to 6-11-1 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

DeSales broke the scoreless tie just 8:06 into regulation with a nice passing play that resulted in Kerrigan de Meji's sixth goal of the season.

DelVal found the equalizer in the 31st minute when Jess Williamson received a long pass, maneuvered through defenders and beat the keeper from inside the six-yard box for her team-leading 14th goal of the year.

Late in the first half, the Bulldogs scored twice in a matter of 61 seconds to open up a two-goal lead at the break. Lexi Beam got the first goal, her first of the season, and Katie Padgett scored on a nice individual effort to make it 3-1 in the 45th minute.

DelVal had four shots on goal in the first and three corner opportunities.

The Aggies had a number of good opportunities in the second with Williamson getting behind the defense and into key scoring areas, but could only manage two shots on goal.

DeSales put the game out of reach in the 76th minute with Emma Ribeiro's time-best ninth goal of the season.

The Aggies finished the game with six shots on goal and two corner opportunities to 18 shots on goal and eight corners for the visitors. Senior keeper Olivia Sherwood made 14 saves in net.

DelVal will finish the 2022 campaign at home on Saturday, October 29th against Misericordia. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
