DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team came away with a 3-1 victory on its home court over non-conference foe Penn State Abington on Thursday night.
The Aggies improved to 9-8 overall as they took the first set 25-12 and the second 26-24 before dropping the third, 25-18. In the fourth set DelVal came from behind to win the match with a 25-23 victory.
DelVal had 51 kills and 26 errors in the match with eight aces while the Lions managed 41 kills, 26 errors, and 10 aces.
Three Aggies reached double-digit kills led by Olivia Deffendall's 16 along with Victoria Tucker's 12 and Grace Kane's 10. Emma Helverson led the team with five blocks while Deffendall and Cat Nemil each had two. Nemil dished out 37 assists in the match and added 21 digs and three kills with a pair of aces. Gretta Schneider, Nemil, Tucker, and Deffendall all had two service aces. Libero Grace Wilson pitched in with 18 digs and three assits and Kane had five assists to go with 15 digs.
In the final set, DelVal trailed, 22-19, before going on a 6-1 run. Kane started the run with a kill and served the Aggies across the finish line for the final three points.
DelVal volleyball will be back in action on Monday, October 17th with another non-conference match against Keystone at home.
