Aggies Late Run Leads To Home Win Over FDU-Florham

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team used a 24-7 run to close the game and overcome visiting FDU-Florham, in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freed-om tilt on Wednesday night.

The Aggies improved to 10-7 overall and 5-4 in MAC Freedom play while the Devils fell to 3-15 and 0-10.

Each team made just nine field goals in the first half and shot under 40-percent from the field. There were five lead changes in the stanza and the largest advantage belonged to the Devils at just 9-4 in the early going. They maintained a 24-21 lead into the halftime break.

Jordan Gombs for DelVal and Mike Morrissey for FDU each had six points in the first half to lead all scorers.

Godly Mark and Gombs hit consecutive layups to start the second and put the Aggies in front, 25-24. The Devils regained the lead, 33-32, after a pair of free throws from Aidan Newman with 10:27 left in regulation. From there, it was all DelVal.

Ewens Lizima sparked the run with a steal and a layup to put the Aggies ahead for good, 34-33. Gombs followed with a fast-break bucket, and Matt Paulus had a steal and finish of his own to force an FDU timeout with 9:09 remaining and DelVal holding a 38-33 lead.

The Devils got to within three, 40-37, with under five minutes remaining, but Marc quickly halted any hopes of a run with a 3-pointer from straight away. The Aggies put the game away with an 11-2 run over the final 3:30 of play to seal the victory. Pernell Ghee had eight points in the closing minutes to lead the way.

DelVal finished the game shooting over 44-percent (24-for-54) from the field and over 46-percent (6-for-13) from beyond the arc. The defense forced 11 turnovers, all off steals, including three apiece for Marc and Paulus.

Gombs finished with a game-high 19 points, two shy off his career-best that he reached last year against the Devils. He added six rebounds and an assist. Ghee finished with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

FDU-Florham was led by Aidan Newman's 13 points and three players finished with six rebounds. As a team, the Devils shot 16-for-48 (33.3%) from the field and 4-for-18 (22.2%) from beyond the arc.  They out-rebounded DelVal, 36-33.

The Aggies will look to make it three in-a-row when the visit King's College on Saturday for a MAC Freedom tilt beginning at 3 p.m.
