DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team finally took to the pitch for its 2021 season opener as it traveled to Manahattanville College where first-year forward Jess Williamson scored the lone goal in the 60th minute to lift the Aggies to a 1-0 start.
Less than 30 seconds after Williamson was booked for the first yellow card of the game, she broke free and beat the keeper to the lower left corner of the net to break the 0-0 tie and give DelVal all the offense it would need. It was the first collegiate tally for Williamson.
Junior Olivia Sherwood played all 90 minutes in goal for the Aggie and recorded five saves to earn her first victory for the Green and Gold.
DelVal played 22 players in its season-opener and registered four shots on goal led by two from Williamson.
The Valiants finished with five shots on goal and held a 4-2 advantage in corner opportunities. Forward Ashley Hayes had a game-high three shots on target and Alexa Pyatsky made three saves in goal.
