Volleyball Drops MAC Freedom Contest At King's

WILKES-BARRE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's volleyball team traveled to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe King's College for a Tuesday night league contest, but fell short in three straight sets. The Monarchs won, 25-19, 25-20, and 25-20.

King's remained perfect on the year at 6-0 overall as it earned its first MAC Freedom win, while the Aggies fell to 2-3 and 0-2.

The Monarchs used an 8-1 run early in the first set to open up a 15-5 lead. DelVal battled back with 11 of the next 14 points to cut its deficit to two, 18-16, before another 7-3 run by the home team sealed the first set win. The Aggies committed just five errors to the Monarchs nine, but were out done in kills, 13-8.

King's raced out to a 7-0 lead in the second and again led by as many as 10 in the early going. Once again the Green and Gold battled back with a 10-2 run to pull within two, 15-13. Late in the second, DelVal moved to within three, 23-30, but the next two points went to the Monarchs to take game two. The Aggies out-hit King's in the set, with a .242 hitting percentage compared to .216, and again had less errors than the home team. The Monarchs managed five service aces and allowed just one.

DelVal's largest lead of the night came in the third set at 5-3 thanks to kills by Gretta Schneider, Grace Kane, and Emma Helverson to get things started. King's built its double-digit lead late in this set after a 10-3 run made it a 22-11 game. The Aggies dug deep for one last push and seven straight and eight of the next 10 to make it a 24-20 game, but it was not enough as the Monarchs held on for the home triumph.

Overall, Kane led DelVal with 12 kills to go with eight digs and a block. Olivia Deffendall followed with eight kills on 21 attempts and added a pair of service aces. Helverson and Schneider each had 13 digs and six and five kills, respectively. Caitlin Nemil dished out 29 assists and had 10 digs to her credit.

Olivia Bunch led all players with 13 kills in the math and had seven digs while Wiatt Hoffman recorded three aces and eight digs with 28 helpers.
