DALLAS (Pa.) – Top-seed Misericordia University earned a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Delaware Valley University baseball team to advance to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom semifinal round.
The Cougars (23-7) racked up 30 hits and 25 runs over the two games and committed one error. In the opener, Misericordia score one run in the first and one run in the third for a 2-0 lead. The Aggies got one back in the fourth as Garrett Zimmerman plated Jonathan Drews with an RBI single. DelVal was held to one hit the rest of the way.
Starting pitcher Dakota George went six innings and allowed six earned runs with one strikeout and four walks. Kyle Bailey pitched two in relief and allowed five hits with one strikeout.
In game two, Misericordia scored one in the first and another six in the second. Drews highlighted the offensive effort for the Aggies with a solo homerun to lead off the fourth inning. Over the two games, he combined for four hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. DelVal had six hits in the game from six different players. Ethan Saxe, Garrett Zimmerman, and Cole Holsinger combined for three strikeouts and three walks on the mound with 13 earned runs against.
Misericordia's Barrett Gray got the win with five strikeouts over eight innings.
