WEEHAWKIN (Nj) -- The Delaware Valley University softball team traveled to the second-ranked team in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom, Stevens Institute of Technology, but was held scoreless in a doubleheader sweep by the home team. The Ducks (9-5, 8-2 MAC Freedom) took game one, 10-0, and won game two, 9-0, over the Aggies (1-11, 0-10 MAC Freedom).
In the opener, Stevens got on the board in the top of the first with two runs on two hits and an error. Meg Halloran had an RBI single and Victoria Kapp drove in another with a sacrifice fly to center field. The home team scored two more in the third thanks to a walk and a pair of errors to take a 4-0 lead.
Rookie
Makenna Cooper had the lone hit in the game for DelVal when she led off the fourth inning with a single up the middle.
Megan Torrey moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt, but the next two batters were putout and Cooper was stranded at second.
The Ducks broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with six runs on three hits, an error, and three walks as it secured the win in five innings.
In game two,
Adina Brucie was the only runner to get aboard for the Aggies as she legged out an infield single with two outs in the top of the fifth. Stevens strung together five runs on five hits and an error in the bottom of the fourth to build upon the two-run innings they strung together in the first ans second frames.
Samantha Schattin led Stevens with a 2-for-3 effort at the dish, two runs scored, and two RBI and Erin Kreis earned the win with just one strikeout in five innings of work.
