ANNVILLE (Pa.) – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced the 2021 MAC Freedom baseball championship field on Wednesday night and the eighth-seed Delaware Valley University Aggies will travel to number-one Misericordia University for a best-of-three series beginning Saturday afternoon.
The 2021 MAC Freedom Championship has been changed to a new format. The championship will proceed with quarterfinal, semifinal and championship rounds. Each round will be a three-game series with the higher-seeded team hosting a doubleheader on the first day and the lower-seeded team hosting the 'if necessary' game on the next day. However, the higher-seeded team will be the "home team" in all three contests. All three games of each series will be nine innings.
DelVal and Misericordia are scheduled for a 12 p.m. first pitch on Saturday in Dallas, Pa.
The quarterfinal round will take place May 1-2 and the semifinal round will take place May 8-9. This year's championship will conclude with the final round on May 15-16.
This year's tournament field is as follows: 1. Misericordia, 2. DeSales, 3. Stevens, 4. Arcadia, 5. Wilkes, 6. FDU-Florham, 7. King's, 8. Delaware Valley.
The MAC Freedom Baseball Championship spectator policy will adhere to the spectator policy of each institution throughout the duration of the tournament. Each institution's spectator policy can be found on the MAC Institutional Spectator Policy Resources Page.
The Aggies (3-25) and the Cougars (21-7) met four times this season with Misericordia claiming victory in each contest. The Cougars are in search of their tenth consecutive MAC Freedom Championship.
DelVal is batting .253 as a team this season led by senior Timmy Lallis and his .374/.412/.896 slash line with 34 hits, 10 RBI, eight doubles, and six stolen bases. Dakota George leads the team on the mound with a 5.19 ERA, three complete games, and 34.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 11 batters this year.
Misericordia's offense is powered by senior Sean Boylan who boasts a .451 average with 41 hits, 31 runs scored, eight doubles, two home runs, and seven stolen bases. Seven players with at least 20 games played are hitting above the .300 mark. On the mound, David McCurry has appeared in six games with four starts, and is 4-1 with a 2.30 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched.
Per the Misericorida University spectator policy, no visiting team fans or guests are permitted. However, live video and live stats will be provided by the Cougars.
