GLENSIDE (Pa.) -- Arcadia University completed the series sweep of the Delaware Valley University softball team as it took both games of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) doubleheader on Wednesday night under the lights. The Knights (14-4) defeated the Aggies (1-17), 12-0, in game one and, 8-2, in game two.
DelVal was hurt by errors in the opener as it committed five that led to seven unearned runs against starting pitcher
Olivia Monismith.
Arcadia scored three in the first on three hits and two errors then exploded for six in the third with five hits and one error. As a team, the Knights had 12 hits led by a 3-for-3 effort from Madi Costigan. Four different players got a hit for the Aggies including Monismith who went 1-for-1 with a walk.
Adina Brucie led off game two with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later,
Madison McClary drove her in with an RBI triple to center field and later came around to score on an error to give DelVal an early 2-0 lead. The Knights were held to just one hit over the first two innings and the Aggies got consecutive singles from
Makenna Cooper and
Alexa Jones with two outs in the top of the third, but the game remained 2-0 as the runners were stranded.
In the bottom of the fourth, DelVal retired the first two Arcadia batters, but the Knights rallied for five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-2. Arcadia held the Aggies to just one hit the rest of the way and tacked on two more in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 8-2 win.
Cooper and Jones registered one hit a piece in each of the games and
Joanna Kondroski suffered the loss in game two despite three strikeouts. Megan Sooy led Arcadia with a 3-for-4 effort, 2 RBI and a run scored and Brenna Dolan struck out 10 in the win.
