DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University softball team hosted Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Arcadia University and dropped both games of the double header by scores of 15-0 and 11-1.
The Knights (12-4, 9-3 MAC Freedom) held the Aggies (1-14, 0-14 MAC Freedom) to just three hits over the two games while racking up 25 of their own.
Three run home runs by Megan Sooy and Alexa Vardiman highlighted the opener as Sooy finished with four RBIs in the game. Madison McClary had the lone hit for DelVal, a blooper over third base in the bottom of the third that she legged out for a double.
Joanna Kondroski went the distance in the circle and struck out four while her counterpart, Kylee Schwind earned the win with 12 punch-outs, one walk, and one hit allowed.
The Aggies got the Knights out in order to start game two and took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Adina Brucie got aboard after a pass ball on a strike three, and moved into scoring position by stealing second base. Makenna Cooper moved Brucie to third with a well-placed bunt, and an errant throw allowed Brucie to come around and score.
Arcadia got the run back in the next half inning with a sacrifice fly from Allison LaRochelle that plated Morgan Tripodi and tied the game.
In the second, Alexis Langenfelder worked a leadoff walk and Gabrielle Landis legged out a bunt single, but DelVal was unable to capitalize.
The Knights added one in the fourth, four in the fifth, one in the sixth, and four more in the seventh for the 11-1 victory.
Langenfelder started the game in the circle and went 5.1 innings with one strikeout and Olivia Monismith closed the game and struck out two. Juliana Presto earned the win for Arcadia and recorded 10 strikeouts.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader at Arcadia under the lights beginning at 6 p.m.
