Softball Drops Two At Home To Stevens

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University softball team suffered a pair of losses to visiting Stevens Institute of Technology in a Middle Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday.

The Ducks (6-4, 5-4 MAC Freedom) defeated the Aggies (1-9, 0-8), 10-1, in game one and, 5-2, in game two.

In the opener, Stevens scored four runs in the first inning and held a 5-0 lead after two. DelVal was held without a hit until the fifth inning when Adina Brucie laid down a bunt and beat the throw.

The Ducks scored three more in top of the sixth thanks in part to a two-run homer to left field by the five-hole hitter Jessica Guerraro. The Aggies scored one in the bottom of the sixth as Madison McClary reached on an error and went from first to third on a sacrifice bunt by Caitlyn Pollock. Megan Torrey came up next and sent one down the left field line to plate McClary for the two-out RBI single, but Stevens ended the threat there and secured the victory.

The Ducks had 13 hits in the game and the Aggies committed four errors. Brucie was 1-for-1 with a walk and Olivia Monismith struck out eight and walked four with four earned runs allowed. Jessie Masur led the visitors with 12 strikeouts while Guerraro and Meg Halloran each had three hits and combined for three RBI and four runs scored.

In game two, Stevens got on the board first after an error helped Lexi Gregule come in to score to make it 1-0 after three. DelVal loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth and took the lead when first-year Makenna Cooper laced a single down the left field line to score Brucie and Monismith and give the Aggies a 2-1 lead after four. The Ducks tied it back up in the next half inning with an RBI double by Gina DeOliveira.

The Aggies got a runner to second with one out in the fifth but a strikeout and a fly out ended the threat. Monismith relieved starting pitcher Alexis Langenfelder in the sixth and Stevens loaded the bases with one out. Monismith got the next batter to strike out, but Samantha Schattin cleared the bags with a double to the fence in left center field to give the visitors a 5-2 lead it would not relinquish as DelVal was put down in order the next two frames.

Monsmith went 2-for-3 at the dish and Brucie got aboard twice with a hit and a walk as each of the juniors came in to score once. Langenfelder pitched five innings and allowed six hits with two strikeouts.

Halloran led the Ducks with a 3-for-4 effort and Amanda Delorme went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Erin Kreis started the game and went four innings with four hits allowed, four walks, and three strikeouts.
