DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Senior Dylan Brasch had a career night and led the Delaware Valley University men's lacrosse team to a 15-2 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rout of visiting King's College under the lights and the rain on Wednesday night.
It was a warm but wet evening as the two teams battled the rain all game in Doylestown. With the win, the Aggies improved to .500 at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in league play while the Monarchs fell to 0-5 and 0-3 in the MAC Freedom.
Brasch had two points just 4:29 into the game as he opened the scoring with a goal and an assist to Ben Napieralski to give DelVal a 2-0 advantage early on.
King's scored next, but Brasch answered right back with an unassisted tally as he blew one by the keeper from 10 yards out for his third point of the game.
The rest of the way was all Aggies as they scored the next 13 goals and the defense held the Monarchs to just 12 shots on goal en route to the 15-2 triumph.
The media and communications major, Brasch, got his 100th career point with 9:39 left in the second quarter. Junior long-pole Sean Mylod finished a clear for DelVal and raced the other way before finding Brasch wide open at the far post and the senior made no mistake as he beat the keeper for his third goal and fourth point of the first half.
Brasch finished with a career-high eight points on six goals and two assists and he added three ground balls and two caused turnovers to the effort.
Napieralski followed with four tallies, Brett Ziegler potted two goals and an assist, Brandon Keller had a goal and an assist, as did Mylod, and Matt Waibel added two helpers. Nic Brogdan and PJ Rafferty each had a point to round out the night of scoring.
Jim Murphy played over 49 minutes in net and made eight saves with two goals against before being relieved by Ryan Savering who had five saves in his first collegiate appearance. DelVal forced 35 turnovers while committing 25 and won the faceoff battle, 12-9. Defensively, Mylod had six ground balls and four caused turnovers and freshman Luke Kelchner had a career-night with six ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
