Softball Drops A Pair To Misericordia At Home

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University softball team played on its home field for the first time in nearly two years but did not get the result it was looking for as Misericordia University cruised to a doubleheader sweep in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom matchup.

The Cougars (2-0) blanked the Aggies (1-3) in game one, 8-0, and won the second game, 15-3.

DelVal managed four hits in the opener, two apiece off the bats of Jessica Stewart and Madison McClary, and Olivia Monismith and Adina Brucie got aboard once via walks. Stewart led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to the fence in center field and advanced to third on a passed ball with two outs but was stranded there.

Monismith pitched all six innings and allowed 12 hits and seven earned runs with three punch outs. Alexa McHugh went the distance for Misericordia and allowed four hits while fanning 14 batters.

DelVal got five hits in game two led by a 2-for-3 effort and an RBI by Monismith. She drove in Stewart in the first inning with a double to deep center field. The majority of the offense for the Aggies came in the final frame when Megan Torrey hit a two-out single, Stewart walked, Monismith singled to load the bases, and Anastasia Yocum drove in two with a double deep to the fence down the right field line.

The Cougars put up 10 runs in the top of the first inning on six hits and an error. Stewart ended the damage when she caught a line drive and doubled up the runner that left third base.

Misericordia had nine players record a hit led by a 3-for-3 effort with three RBI and two runs scored from Nicole Elliott.

DelVal will play four games next weekend against Lycoming, the first two on Saturday in Williamsport beginning at 1 p.m.
