Aggies Baseball Loses Two At Stevens

HOBOKEN (Nj.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team concluded its four-game series with Stevens Tech. on the road Sunday afternoon, but did not get the results it was looking for as the home team came away with a pair of convincing wins.

The Ducks (6-0, 6-0 MAC Freedom) won game one, 14-0, and took the nightcap, 17-2, over the Aggies (0-4, 0-4 MAC Freedom).

Stevens held DelVal to just one hit and four baserunners in the opener and scored 12 runs in the first inning. Designated hitter Brendon Hoagland had the lone base knock with a single to center in the second inning. Garrett Zimmerman suffered the loss after three innings of work and four strikeouts. Ronald Aron and Zak Clark also appeared on the mound.

For the Ducks, Ryan Wall and Gavin Kenney-McGowan each had three hits with Kenney McGowan driving in three runs and scoring twice. Starting pitcher Chandler Brierley got the win with five innings of work and eight strikeouts.

In game two, Stevens scored in all but one inning and managed 16 hits and worked six walks. Eleven different players registered and hit and five had multi-hit games including Brett Mendez who went 2-for-2 with five RBI, a runs scored and a walk. Thomas Paulich and Jack Irby each hit home runs.

The Aggies had nine hits in the game and worked seven walks. Jared Sterner led the way with a 3-for-4 effort while Zimmerman and Bobby Bright each had two base knocks and drove in a run. Cole Holsinger took the loss on the mound as he got the start and gave up eight hits with four strikeouts through four-plus innings.

DelVal will look to bounce-back next weekend with four games against King's College beginning with a twin-bill at home on Saturday.
