DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball won its third-straight game of the season with a wire-to-wire victory over Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe FDU-Florham, 55-39.
The Aggies improved to 3-4 overall and, more importantly, 3-2 in MAC Freedom games while the Devils (0-6) remained winless.
DelVal won the opening tip and Shayne Glenn found the reigning MAC Freedom Player of the Week Emily Kutskel cutting backdoor with a nifty pass to open the scoring. That sparked a 7-0 run to start the game for DelVal and it never trailed the rest of the way.
The Aggies held the Devils to just two three-pointers for the first 13:28 of the game as they opened up a 16-point lead early through the second. DelVal remained stingy and kept FDU-Florham to 6-of-22 shooting for the first half. Offensively, the Green and Gold made 12-of-26 field goals, 3-of-5 treys, and were a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line to take a 33-18 lead at the break.
DelVal led by as many as 21, it's largest of the game, after a pair of free throws from Kutskel made it 44-23 with 3:43 left in the third.
FDU-Florham made a run in the fourth to pull within ten, 48-38, with five minutes left in regulation as the Aggies went without a basket for nearly five minutes. Haley Keenan ended the drought with an and-1 layup in transition off a steal by Lauren Moretti, and DelVal closed the game with a 7-1 run for the 55-39 win.
Keenan scored a game-high 16 points, Moretti had 14, and Kutskel finished with 12. For the second time this season, Kutskel matched a career-high with eight blocked shots and she added five rebounds. Keenan led all players in the game with a career-best 13 rebounds and had four steals and two assists. Moretti also had four steals, and Taylor Richardson pitched in with eight rebounds.
The Aggies finished the game 18-for-19 from the charity stripe and shot nearly 40-percent from the field.
Eight different players scored for the visitors, led by nine points from Jayda Bing who added seven boards.
DelVal will put a bow on the regular season tomorrow night at 7 p.m. with a rematch against the Devils in New Jersey.
