DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The visiting Albright College women's basketball team used a strong shooting effort to outduel the host Delaware Valley University and claim a 68-50 non-conference victory.
Both teams struggled in the first quarter, only connecting on three field goals and one 3-pointer apiece, but the Lions (4-2) were 5-from-7 from the free throw line while the Aggies went 1-for-2 from there and the visitors took a 12-8 lead into the second.
The Aggies pulled within one at the halfway point of the second frame after a 9-4 run, but Albright fired right back with a run of their own and it was back and forth the rest of the stanza until the Lions ultimately took a 31-25 lead into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, DelVal was outrebounded 11-4 and committed six turnovers as the visitors had eight more attempts at the basket and outscored the Aggies 20-10 in the frame to jump out to a 41-35 lead headed into the final 10 minutes.
DelVal did not commit a single turnover in the fourth quarter and shot seven more field goals than its opponent but could not overcome the deficit as Albright cruised to the 68-50 road victory.
The Aggies shot 20-for-54 (37%) from the field and just 1-for-13 from 3-point land. Lauren Moretti, Taylor Richardson, and Emily Kutskel each finished with 11 points. Moretti added six assists and five steals and Kutskel recorded six blocked shots while Richardson pulled down nine rebounds.
Albright was 25-for-60 (41.7%) from the field, 5-for-11 (45.4%) from deep, and 13-for-16 (81.3%) from the line. It was led by 17 points and 13 rebounds from Brady Wassel followed by 15 points and five steals from Maggie O'Hare.
DelVal's next contest is slated for next Thursday at home against Wilkes University at 7 p.m.
