Women's Hoops Triumphs Over Wilkes At Home, 59-42

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team got back to its winning ways with a 59-42 home triumph over Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Wilkes University.

The Aggies improved to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in league games while the Colonels fell to 1-3, all in MAC Freedom play.

A pair of upper classmen led the way for DelVal with near triple-doubles each as senior Lauren Moretti finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists and junior Emily Kutskel notched 12 points, 10 rebounds, and eight blocked shots. Sophomore Shayne Glenn played a leading role with a game-high 16 points  with three 3-pointers to go with six rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

DelVal opened the scoring when Glenn fed Kutskel in the post and she spun to the basket for a layup. Wilkes scored the next seven as the Aggies next bucket came with just under four left in the quarter as Glenn connected from beyond the arc for her first points of the game.

The Colonels maintained a five-point advantage late in the stanza, but Glenn found Moretti open from three-point land and the senior connected to make it a 14-12 game going into the second.

Kutskel scored the first four points of the second and Glenn hit her second trey to fuel a 7-3 Aggie run that put them ahead, 19-17. Back-to-back layups from Maddie Kelley put Wilkes back on top by two with 6:12 left in the half.

The rest of the quarter DelVal held the visitors to one field goal and forced four turnovers as it outscored the Colonels 10-2 to take a 31-23 lead into halftime.

Wilkes pulled to within five thanks to a 13-8 run over the first 3:42 of the third quarter to make it a 36-31 game. The Aggies countered with an 8-3 spurt including six made free throws on six attempts to get the lead back to double digits. The lead grew to 12, 49-37, when Moretti nicely found Glenn cutting to the rim for an easy layup as time expired on the third quarter.

DelVal outscored Wilkes 10-5 in the fourth quarter and held a 13-9 advantage on the glass to secure the 59-42 victory.

First-year Taylor Richardson had a strong showing with 10 rebounds and eight points including a 4-for-4 effort from the free throw line. As a team, the Aggies hit seven three-pointers and forced 18 turnovers with eight steals.

Wilkes was led by Kelley's 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and Erin Shober paced the squad with 11 boards and three blocked shots to go with five points.
