Aggies Force OT At Albright, But Fall Short In 82-69 Defeat

READING (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team erased a nine-point second half deficit to force overtime, but host Albright College pulled away in the extra session to earn an 82-69 non-conference victory.

With under eight minutes left in regulation, the Aggies (0-3) trailed the Lions (3-2), 61-52, after a 3-pointer from Maggie O'Hare.

DelVal responded with a 9-0 run over the next four minutes to take its first lead of the second half, 63-61, lead with four minutes left in regulation. Emily Kutskel started the spurt with a jumper and Lauren Moretti followed with a trey before freshman Haley Kennan finished the run with six straight points.

The two teams traded baskets until Albright went ahead, 69-67, with less than two minutes remaining. The score stayed that way as the clock wound under a minute and Keenan got to the rim to the score at 69-69 with 39 seconds on the clock.

The Lions called a timeout, but missed a layup and Shayne Glenn pulled down the rebound for DelVal. Out of a timeout, the Aggies got the ball to the hot-shooting Keenan but her attempt at the rim fell short and the clock expired as the game went to overtime knotted at 69-69.

DelVal went cold in the overtime period as it went 0-for-4 from the field and 0-for-2 from the free throw line. Comparatively, Albright went 2-for-6 from the field but a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe to secure the 82-69 victory.

In the first quarter, the Aggies trailed by three with less than four minutes remaining, but closed the stanza on a 10-4 run to take a 23-20 lead into the second.

They stretched the lead to four in the second quarter after Moretti found Kennan from beyond the arc, but the Lions countered with a 7-1 run to regain the lead, 31-29. However, DelVal closed the stanza with six of the final nine points for the one-point advantage at the half to set the stage for the second half dramatics.

Keenan logged 41 minutes and led the etam with 21 points as the Aggies placed four players in double figures. Kutskel finished with 17 and two blocked shots and Moretti totaled 15 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Glenn also reached double-digits with 11 points to go with three rebounds and three steals. As a team, DelVal made 8-of-20 (40%) of its 3-pointers and shot 24-for-67 (35.8%) from the field.

Albright's Maggie O'Hare led all scorers with 30 points and had eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots while Gabby Boggs notched a double-double of 17 points and 14 boards. Abby Gaffney and Brady Wassel each scored 12.

The two squads will go right back at it tomorrow night, in Doylestown, at 7 p.m.
