Men's Hoops Drops First League Game At Arcadia

GLENSIDE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team dropped its first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest as it struggled from the field against host Arcadia University and ultimately fell, 83-57.

It was the first win of the season for the Knights who improved to 1-9 overall and 1-2 in league play while the Aggies dropped to 6-4 and 2-1.

Arcadia held a 5-2 lead in the early going before the Aggies ripped off an 11-2 run over 3:07 of play to take a six-point, 13-7, lead six minutes in. Godly Marc led the spurt with four points.

The home team fired back with an 18-0 run to open up a 12-point, 25-13, lead with 8:26 left in the half. DelVal missed 11-straight field goals in the stretch and turned the ball over four times while six different players scored for the Knights and they hit 4-of-7 three's.

Later in the half, Francis Robles-Montes led the Aggies on a 9-4 run as he poured in eight straight points including two from beyond the arc to cut the deficit to three, 35-32, with 1:30 left in the half. Arcadia answered once again with six-straight points to close the stanza as it took a 41-32 lead into the halftime locker room.

DelVal was within eight 6:30 into the second half, but the Knights put together a 20-4 run over the next 6:45 of play to pull away. Arcadia shot 9-of-14 from the field compared to the Aggies' 1-for-12 over that span as the Knights grew their lead to 68-42 with 6:49 left in regulation.

Arcadia led by as many as 27 with 1:32 left in regulation before closing out the victory, 83-57.

Robles-Montes led DelVal with 14 points and four treys to go with four rebounds. Jordan Gombs pulled down a team-high seven boards and added three steals. The Aggies shot 23-for-74 (31.1%) from the field and 5-for-23 (21.7%) from deep.

The Knights won the rebound battle 55-41 and shot over 48-percent from the field as a team. Nine different players scored led by Samuel Majekodunmi's 18 points. Jalen Watkins finished with 17 rebounds, 16 points, and five blocked shots.

DelVal will finally play its first home game of the season next Wednesday as it welcomes MAC Freedom foe King's college for a 5 p.m. tip.
