SAINT MARY'S CITY (Md.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team placed four players in double-digits scoring and forced host St. Mary's College into 26 turnovers as it cruised to an 82-58 non-conference victory, it's second in a row.
The Aggies improved to 4-3 overall while the Seahawks remained winless at 0-4.Â
Less than five minutes into the contest, Saint Mary's capped a 5-0 run with a put-back dunk by Nazareth Fisher that put the home team up, 11-6.
DelVal responded with a 23-4 burst over the next 11-plus minutes to open up a comfortable 29-15 advantage with 3:58 left in the half. The Aggies forced nine turnovers in that stretch with four steals and big man
Thomas Ibidapo led the way with eight points. The Green and Gold continued to pour it on the rest of the first half and took a 40-25 lead into the locker room. DelVal got more than half (23) of its points off the bench and scored 31 points off of 15 St. Mary's turnovers. It made 11 trips to the free-thrown line and converted all but one.Â
The Aggies began the second half on a 16-7 run to open up its largest lead of the game at 56-32 with 15:16 left in regulation. The Seahawks never got closer than 17 points of DelVal as the visitors walked away with the 24-point triumph for its second consecutive win.Â
Pernell Ghee had a game-high 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting and a perfect 7-for-7 mark from the charity stripe. Ibidapo and
Godly Marc each poured in 14 points and
Jordan Gombs joined them in double figures with 11. Gombs led the Aggies with seven rebounds and Marc added five steals and three assists.
Matt Paulus connected on three treys for nine points in the game.Â
DelVal out-rebounded St. Mary's, 37-31, and won the turnover battle with nine less than the home team's 25.Â
The Aggies will look to make it three in a row when it opens Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play on Wednesday (12/1) at FDU-Florham. Tip-off in Madison, New Jersey is scheduled for 8 p.m.
