CLERMONT (Fl.) – Penn State Dubois scored eight runs in the third inning and four in the sixth to defeat the Delaware Valley University softball team for the second-straight day in Clermont, Florida, 12-7.
The loss dropped the Aggies to 0-5 overall.
Each team was hitless through the first two innings before Brooke Harve led off the third with a single through the middle. Three batters later, Kayleigh Mac got the Lions on the board with a single to right field that plated two and sparked a seven-run rally as the Blue and White got seven-straight singles and took a 7-0 lead into the fourth.
DelVal fired right back in the next half inning with six runs on seven hits to pull within one. Jessica Steart and
Caitlin Stoner had RBI singles,
Anastasia Yocum drove in two with a double to the fence in left center, and
Caitlyn Pollock drove in one with a single.
Penn State Dubois got one back in the bottom of the fourth as Cierra O'Shea led off with a single, swiped second, and scored on an RBI single by Mac.
Freshman
Morghan Fleisher brought the Aggies back to within one as she led off the fifth with her first career home over the left field fence to make it an 8-7 game.
The Lions put up four runs on three hits and three errors in the six to build their lead to 12-7 going into the seventh.
Stoner led off the final frame with a single and DelVal managed to load the bases with just one out. Unfortunately for the Aggies, Lizzy Scott got the next two batters to punch out and end the game with the five run differential.
Pollock led DelVal at the dish with a 3-for-5 effort, an RBI, and a run scored while Stoner was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Five other players also got a hit including Fleischer who added two runs scored and an RBI.
Olivia Monismith pitched the game from the circle and allowed seven earned runs on 14 hits with six punch outs and a walk.
Five different Lions had multiple hits led by Aspen Bishop's three knocks to go with two RBI and a run scored. Skylar Cepri pitched in two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored. Scott struck out five batters and allowed four walks, four earned runs, and 10 hits.
