Olivet Walks It Off Against Aggies In Game Two

LEESBURG (Fl.) – Olivet College got a walk off ground rule double in the bottom of the seventh to hand the Delaware Valley University softball team its second 4-3 loss of the afternoon.

DelVal opened the scoring in the top of the first as Caitlyn Pollock hit a lead-off single into left field and the Aggies (0-4) played small ball to move her to third. Jess Stewart came up next and sent a bouncer up the middle to plate Pollock for the 1-0 lead.

Freshman Joanna Kondroski got the ball to start the second game for the Green and Gold and had a scoreless first inning as she worked out of jam with one out and runners on first and second.

Olivet (4-3) broke through in the bottom of the second when Payton Watson hit a ground rule double over the left center field to give the Comets a 2-1 lead.

The Aggies had runners at first and third in the top of the third but the threat was halted by a 6-4-3 ground ball double play turned by Olivet.

The Comet doubled their lead in the bottom of the fourth when Jessica Barnes sent a ball over the left field fence for a two-out home run to make it 3-1 going into the fifth.

Adina Brucie worked a lead-off walk for DelVal and was moved around to third base with two outs left, but she was stranded there and Olivet maintained the two-run lead.

Kondroski allowed one single in the bottom of the fifth, but got three fly outs via her center fielder Caitlyn Pollock to send the game to the sixth.

After two outs to start the frame, Olivia Monismith worked a walk, Torrey hit a single to center field, and Pollock beat out an infield single to load the bases for Brucie. The Aggies were helped by two wild pitches that plated Monismith and Torrey to tie the game again, 3-3.

Kondroski found herself in another jam in the bottom of the sixth as Olivet loaded the bases with just one out. A ground out to third and a pop out to second base ended the threat once again, and the game remained tied after six.

DelVal went down in order in its half of the seventh, and Kondroski came back out for the seventh. The first batter hit a line drive to center field that Pollock got to, but the ball went in and out of her glove and fell to the ground to put a runner on first. She was moved to second on a bunt, and two batters later, Kayla Blett hit a ground rule double to end the game in walk off fashion for the Comets, 4-3.

Pollock, Stewart, and Torrey each had two hits in the game and Brucie reached base three times with walks. Stewart picked up the lone RBI. Kondroski finished with three earned runs allowed on seven hits and six walks in 6.2 innings of work. As a team, the Aggies left nine runners on base.

Olivet had seven hits, two from Blett and Watson and Watson had two RBIs.
