CLERMONT (Fl.) – The Delaware Valley University softball team captured its first win of the 2020 season in the opener of its final day of The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida as it built a 4-0 lead and held on against Susquehanna for a 4-1 triumph.
Faith Sleva opened the scoring for the Aggies (1-8) in the first inning with aggressive base running. She got aboard on a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third base, and then rushed home on another wild pitch.
Caitlyn Pollock got the start in the circle and allowed just one hit through two innings and DelVal led 1-0 after two. With one out in the top of the third, Pollock singled to left and stole second base. Sleva came up next and doubled to left field to put runners on second and third for
Morghan Fleisher who brought them both home with a base knock to right. After Fleisher swiped third,
Caitlin Stoner drove her in with a ground out to second to make it 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the River Hawks had runners at first and second with two outs after a pair of singles and Kiara Bryant drove one in with a double to left field. Pollock got the final batter to pop out to the infield to keep it 4-1 after four.
Each team had just one hit the rest of the game as the Aggies secured the three-run victory, the first for the new coaching staff of
Jamie Stefani and
Erin Barainyak.
Fleisher was 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, and a run scored and Sleva came in to score twice. Pollock pitched seven innings and allowed just one earned run on five hits and four walks with one strikeout. She allowed one hit to five different players.
