CLERMONT (Fl.) – The Delaware Valley University softball team built an early 6-0 lead, but saw it slip away as Gordon College came-from-behind with a five-run seventh inning to take a 10-8 non-conference triumph.
The Aggies bats were hot in the first inning and got them out to a 6-0 lead as 11 players came to the plate in the inning and registered four hits.
Caitlyn Pollock got things started with a lead-off double and two batters later Morgan Fleisher drove in her and
Faith Sleva with a single to right field.
Jessica Stewart and
Sam Demoy each picked up an RBI with ground outs that scored a runner from third, and later in the frame Meghan Torrey drove one in with a double to right field.
Gordon got one back in the third inning when the lead-off batter worked a walk and later came around to score on an error to make it 6-1. The Fighting Scots tacked on two more in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull within one.
DelVal got the lead back to three in the sixth as Fleisher and Stewart each drove in another run to make it, 8-5.
Gordon Rallied in the seventh with five runs on five hits to take its first lead of the game, 10-8.
The Aggies got on aboard in the seventh, but could not get any runs across the plate as the Fighting Scots held on for the non-conference win.
Fleisher and Pollock each had two hits with two runs scored and Fleisher added a pair of RBIs. Stewart finished with a hit and two runs batted in.
