Baseball Gets Back On Track With Split Against Immaculata

FORT PIERCE (Fl.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team dropped its first game of a twin bill with Immaculata University, 5-0, but got back to its winning ways with a 3-1 victory in game two.

The Aggies moved to 2-5 overall while the Mighty Macs went to 6-6.

Immaculata did all of its damage in the sixth inning of the first game with five runs on six hits and one error. Lead-off hitter Jason Smiley highlighted the frame with a bases loaded single that plated two. Two of the runs in the inning were unearned.

DelVal got four hits from four different players and worked two walks in the game. In the final inning, Ryan Schuetrumpf led off with a single and Ben Kenjorski got aboard with a walk but both runners were stranded and the Mighty Macs earned the win in the opener.

Jared Sterner got the ball to start game two for the Aggies and held Immaculata to just two hits and no runs through five innings.

DelVal broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth as Sean Eldridge led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Adamski.

The Mighty Macs answered in the next half inning as Smiley led off with a double and also came around to score via a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Aggies got their first two hitters aboard and Hank Bielen put DelVal back on top with an RBI single that plated Timmy Lallis. The next two batters walked to score another and make it a 3-1 game going into the final frame.

Brendan Giampa came on to pitch the seventh and allowed a hit and a walk, but closed the game with a fly out and a strikeout to earn his second save of the year and give DelVal the win.

Bielen led the Aggies at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort and the RBI. Eldridge and Lallis were each 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Sterner earned the win and allowed just the one earned run on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
